Building Better Health Through Foundation Training

Building Better Health Through Foundation Training

Santa Barbara chiropractors build health with foundation trainingA healthy back requires more than just correct spinal alignment, vital as that may be. Without strong muscles to support your spine and stabilize your center of gravity, you can expect to have recurrences of your old aches and pains. Fortunately, here at Advanced Chiropractic Group we are about more than just spinal adjustment, too -- and we can help you build the strength you need through Foundation Training exercises.

Foundation Training is based on the fact that the body has three basic muscular "chains." The Posterior Chain consists of all the muscles that support the rear half of your body from the calves and hamstrings all the way up the buttocks and back. The Anterior Chain includes all the muscles on the front side, while a third chain known as the Rotational Chain involves the "opposites" of the Posterior and Anterior Chain muscles -- the obliques, the adductors, etc. Modern sedentary lifestyles have allowed many people's muscle chains to grow weak, adding to their postural instability and making them more injury prone.

Our goal in Foundation Training is to develop the muscles of the Posterior Chain because of the critical roles they play in weight distribution and spinal support. By learning how to make all these muscles engage properly and work together in harmony, an achievement we call "connecting the chain," you gain a significant amount of strength and balance that helps you stand taller, walk more fluidly, and play your favorite sports more effectively.
