Cold Laser Therapy FAQs

Cold Laser Therapy FAQs

Here at Advanced Chiropractic Group, we offer cold laser therapy, which is very beneficial for treating soft tissue injuries.  Listed below are some of the common questions we receive from our patients.

What is cold laser?

A cold laser uses a specific wavelength of light that is therapeutic.  We have found that the optimal laser strength is 632.8nm.  It increases cellular regeneration and healing rates for a variety of soft tissue injuries, including elbow, wrist, shoulder, hip and knee pain.  It helps lower back and neck pain, and it reduces the frequency and duration of headaches.

How long do the treatments last?

Treatment lengths are variable.  They can last between three and 20 minutes.  Before treatment begins, our chiropractor will determine the extent of your injuries and a specific treatment length.  Too little time and the injury might not heal as rapidly as it should.  Too much time is also detrimental to the healing process because it may damage the cells.

How many treatments will I need before my injury is healed?

Your course of treatment and the number of treatments you need will be based on the extent of your injury and the rate at which your body responds to treatment.  Some individuals need only a few treatments, while others need treatment for several weeks.

Are there any supplements I can take to further decrease my recovery time?

Studies have shown that taking a combination of copper, manganese, riboflavin, selenium and zinc can further decrease healing times.  These minerals help restore the levels of glutathione, which is a powerful antioxidant. Our chiropractor can recommend specific supplements along with laser therapy to help you recover faster.

Why does cold laser therapy work?

Cold laser therapy works by stimulating healing on a cellular level.  It improves local blood flow in and around the injury.  As the blood pumps into the injured area, it brings nutrients that are vital for healing.  As the blood moves away from the injured area, it removes cellular toxins that can slow healing if they were to remain in the cell.

What are the benefits of cold laser therapy?

Cold laser therapy is effective at reducing pain and inflammation.  It increases the synthesization of protein.  It destroys bacteria, which helps prevent infections, and it increases the rate at which injuries and wounds heal.

Is cold laser therapy FDA approved?

Cold laser therapy is FDA approved to treat injuries and wounds.  It is a non-invasive treatment option that contains virtually no side-effects and can be used in conjunction with other holistic and traditional treatments.
